February 5, 2021 was a big day for ICA. With joy and thanksgiving, the entire community gathered together in a simple but very meaningful Eucharistic celebration to honor God in His goodness and fidelity because of His abiding presence all these years in the life of the school, marking its 85th Founding Anniversary this year. Coincidentally, the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception is also celebrating a milestone – their 100 years of presence in the Philippines! Counting more reasons to praise the Lord, the 156 th Birth Anniversary of Venerable Delia Tetreault and the 2021 Spring Festival were added to the list. Indeed, the day was filled with so much happiness and gratitude!

The celebration began with a very inspiring Opening Remark by the school president, Sr. Irene N. Ferrer, M.I.C. where she set the mood for the celebration.

Msgr. Esteban “Bong” Lo, LRMS in his homily, enlightened everyone about the themes. Emphasizing gratitude for the gift of mission, he recounted some of the beautiful experiences of the M.I.C. Sisters as they responded to the call of sharing the best gift received from God with others – Jesus! And of course, the ICA community being one of the recipients of Mother Delia’s spirituality and legacy, was reminded to continue to thrive and stay relevant in this world by taking the challenges of the times, especially that of “Forging New Paths in Catholic Education”. Not to forget the joy of the spring festival, Msgr. Lo ended his homily with three Chinese proverbs.

Integrating the Chinese culture in the celebration was done through the ancestral veneration led by Msgr. Lo with his offerings of incense, flowers, fruits and wine. Three solemn vows culminated the veneration. Ms. Shirley Tan, representing the school community and being an alumna herself, said a very heartwarming thanksgiving prayer. This was followed by a flower offering to the two “mothers” of the institute: Mother Mary and Mother Delia!

After the Mass, a short video about the history of the M.I.C Sisters in the Philippines was shown. Produced by ICA batch 2000, the Vanicx, the video presented highlights of the missionary journey of our beloved M.I.C. Sisters. It was indeed an informative and touching
presentation.

 

Surely, all hearts were moved… and with Mary, all souls present in the celebration glorified the Lord!
