09 Nov NO to Paper Plates and Plastic Utensils
ICA has intensified its comprehensive Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) with the full implementation of the “No Paper Plates and Plastic Utensils” policy starting this school year.
Everyone in the ICA community which includes the administration, faculty, students and staff personnel brings her own container when buying food from the school’s food consignors. Moreover, the food consignors have started providing their clientele with color coded dining wares and stainless utensils, instead of paper plates, plastic spoons and forks. Consequently, garbage collection between June- July of 2016-2017 has dropped by almost 50%. From a total of 1,600 garbage bags collected last year from June to July, the number has gone down to 890 garbage bags.
The ICA community’s overwhelming response to the project is a testament of our faithfulness to our advocacy to conserve and preserve the environment as stewards of God’s creation. The SWMP Committee will definitely continue to come up with different activities and projects to further strengthen the school’s thrust to care for the environment.
