Healthy Habit for Life!

July is declared by the Department of Education as the Nutrition Month, an annual campaign to create greater awareness of the importance of good nutrition among Filipinos.  This year’s Nutrition Month, with a theme, “Healthy diet, gawing habit- FOR LIFE!", aimed to promote healthy diet to contribute to the reduction of overweight, obesity and non-communicable diseases. It aimed to teach the public how to discern between healthy and unhealthy food for better food choices. It also aimed to encourage the food industry to produce and make available healthier food options to consumers.

In celebration of this event, the High School (HS) TLE Area, in collaboration with the Student Well-Being Supervisor, Grade Level Coordinators and Advisers, presented a short video about Facts and Myths surrounding Healthy Eating during the homeroom period of HS students last July 3.

In the Grade School Department, the TLE teachers collaborated with the Science teachers and spearheaded the “Healthy Life, Healthy Earth” advocacy with activities held during their level assemblies.  Our very own school doctor, Dr. Karen Ann Lim, talked about Healthy Habits to the Grade 2 students while videos about healthy eating were presented to the Grades 3-6 students.

Classroom-based activities were also conducted in their TLE classes. In their Art classes, Grade 2 students made vegetable portraits and Grade 3 pupils created simple still life compositions depicting the theme for the Nutrition Month.  Grades 4 and 5 pupils made food mobiles while the Grade 6 pupils had a nutrition quiz bee.

While the school does its best to advocate healthy eating, choosing healthy food remains a challenge for many of us because of the food options available in the market and the evolving lifestyle of our families.  We hope that our pupils will grow to develop that strong will and commitment necessary to win this fight for healthy living!
